Mango
I bought a box of mangoes from the Filipino store. They are one of my favorite fruits. Not only are they delicious but they're an excellent source of vitamin C, beta carotene, vitamin E and fiber. According to Barry Fox, Ph.D., in Foods to Heal By (St. Martin's 1996), with these four substances, mangoes "help to prevent cancers of the colon, rectum, pancreas, prostate, breast, cervix, stomach, and other parts of the body. Beta-carotene and vitamins C and E fight cancer in two ways. First, as antioxidants, they help control the oxidative changes that can turn normal cells cancerous. Second, the vitamins strengthen the immune system" (178). I think I'm going going to go have a mango right now. . . .
