There is a great interest in magic these days, with people traveling to see magic shows in, of all places, Las Vegas. Actually Vegas is a big show town, almost as big as New York City. The acts that appear in Vegas are often sensational. One of the things that makes magic interesting is the fact that it is something out of the ordinary. In France in the 1880s there was a theater called the Grand Guignol which featured magic and horror, including sensational plays that scared the wits out of people. Chris Angel is in this category of performers, although he doesn’t focus so much on the horror as the magical. Criss Angel, an American magician, "is scheduled to appear in a new illusion-based Cirque du Soleil production at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas entitled Criss Angel: Believe, with an expected opening date in September 2008," according to Wikipedia.
