Families as Memory Devices
The family is a memory device. This may seem paradoxical. But the family, if viewed as a memory device, is a very good one indeed. The grandparents recall things, such as the Great Depression, World War II and the Spanish-American War. The parents remember the Vietnam War, Nixon, and Kennedy. And the children remember Eminem, Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp. All these memories can be downloaded into a flash memory device, and then the memories of the family will become permanent digital records. Some day memories will be uploaded from digital devices to living beings.
